Resilience

Resilience can be taught, it is not inherent. Children who display grit, determination and perseverance will push through challenging moments and achieve success. Fostering a growth mindset will help your child always seek out the learning opportunity.
Each of the coaching cards below takes no more than five minutes and requires zero preparation. Since they are broadly for 5 - 15 year olds, we have tagged them as easy / medium / hard to help you pick the most appropriate for your child.

Talk about a growth vs fixed mindset.
Prompts if stuck
1) What do you find hard to do right now?

Guidance

Talk about a growth vs fixed mindset. Growth is when you accept you cannot currently do somehting but know that you have the determination and ability to learn it. Consider your own adult life and whether you may have fallen into a fixed mindset - if so use as an example of how children are naturally in growth mode, which is a great thing to keep up and not slip out of!

Prompts if stuck

1) "I can't do this" is what someone with a fixed mindset might say. What else might they say?

2) What would someone with a growth mindset say instead?

3) Why is a growth mindset going to help you even as a grown-up?
