Leaders need to motivate. But it is crucial to understand that different people respond to different motivational approaches and in different situations. Some might do something because it makes sense (logic driven), others because of how they feel (emotion driven), others because they like you (socially driven), others because they benefit (incentive driven) etc
1) I go to work. Why is that? (eg incentive driven)
2) Why do you watch TV? (emotion - it's fun)
3) Why does your best friend help you with your homework? (eg social - they like you)

Leading by example is one of the best forms of leadership. Simply have your child think back over the week for times they were in a public setting and they did something good / worthy / that they felt proud of.
1) I bet you did something awesome this week. What was your proudest moment?
2) How did you make others feel when you did this?
3) What might you have inspired them to do as a result?

We remember how somone made us feel far more than what they told us. Stories are a good vehicle for this. Use any example where you are trying to convince someone to do something eg donating to charity.
1) Let's say you were trying to get me to donate to charity. What would you say?
2) Can you tell me a story about a person who would benefit from my donation (fine to make it up)?
3) How will they feel differently after my donation?
