Creativity

As machines do more for us, the human ability to be creative will arguably become our single biggest strength. The pace of innovation is mind blowing and is only increasing. What is commonplace today didn't exist 20 years ago, and your child will thrive if they are hard-wired to be creative with anything they look at.
Each of the coaching cards below takes no more than five minutes and requires zero preparation. Since they are broadly for 5 - 15 year olds, we have tagged them as easy / medium / hard to help you pick the most appropriate for your child.

Aliens

If aliens exist, what might they look like?

Spark your child's creativity.
Medium
Guidance
Encourage them to think broadly - aliens do not have to be like humans at all.
Prompts if stuck
1) Just thinking about the animals on Earth, what are the differences you see?

Guidance

Encourage them to think broadly - aliens do not have to be like humans at all eg they could have 6 limbs, have separate "mouths" for eating and talking, see in X-ray mode etc.

Prompts if stuck

1) The different animals on Earth have big differences already. What are they?

2) If the Aliens can fly without planes, what might they look like?

3) If the Aliens can read each other's thoughts, what might they look like?

2) If your colour is in between others, can you combine their names together?

3) What object would look good in your colour?

1) How to reduce DEMAND eg stagger lunch times.

Guidance

This was a real life problem faced at a skyscraper with many companies, where lunch time queues for the lifts were irritating employees. Ask your child to think creatively about solutions for this?

Prompts if stuck

1) You could add more lifts. What other ways can you increase "supply"?

2) How can you reduce "demand" i.e. get less people to be using the lifts?

3) If the real problem was not wasting time, but employee irritation, how does that change your solution?
